Job Objective
is charge of preventing fires and other life-threatening threats, as well as reducing their frequency and severity.
Areas of Responsibility
Contributes to plans and coordinates the Fire Safety Section’s operations, particularly with regard to service delivery, in partnership with the Fire Safety Manager.
controls and directs actions that have an impact on how well the department’s employees are used, productive, and performing.
Organizing and carrying out inspections and investigations of commercial, industrial, or other occupied properties as well as public facilities to assess compliance with the NBRSA and the Fire Bylaw
Consult with experts and conduct thorough investigations to ensure that buildings are designed to maximize fire and life safety.
Consult and examine with the intent to optimize the design of dangerous goods installations in respect of fire and life safety.
distributes operational and functional details about the present applications, restrictions, and short-term goals.
takes the necessary steps to meet the administrative and reporting needs related to the functionality’s main performance and outcome indicators.
Key prerequisite
Advanced Certificate in Fire Technology or something like
a valid driver’s license for vehicles.
three relevant years of experience in Fire Safety Officer

equal to a fire technology diploma NQF Level 6
Having 4 years of relevant experience
To be appointed as a Fire Safety Officer, candidates must successfully complete a unit competence evaluation.
The incumbent will be expected to carry out standby tasks outside of regular business hours.
According to Section 334(1)(a) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1977, the incumbent must have the qualifications to be appointed as a peace officer (Act No 51 of 1977).
Physical requirements for the position include, but are not limited to, climbing ladders, crawling through tight locations, moving large things, turning valve wheels, and pushing heavy doors.
Medical requirements must be met for appointment.
Priority will be given to candidates who are underrepresented in terms of ethnicity, gender, and disability at the respective advertised vacancies’ occupational level.
Application is particularly recommended for those with impairments.
Any office, depot, or workplace owned or under the control of the municipality may receive a deployment of an employee.
The candidates will be disqualified if they are canvassed by councilors or officials for these posts.
The selecting procedure may include conducting occupational evaluations.
